Figure Skating Video Games: Can You Help This Mom?

Hello, Readers. The last post was about gifts for figure skating coaches. This post is about what to get your figure skater, specifically video games.

Here's a question I received from a mom:

We bought a DSi for our daughter for Christmas. Trying to decide which game she would enjoy more “Imagine Figure Skater” or “Imagine Ice Champions.” Do your readers have any suggestions/opinions? Do people enjoy the Mario Bros. Winter Olympics game (which has some skating content)? Can’t ask her friends because I’m afraid they might spill the beans about the gift.

Thought a post about skating related video games (all platforms) might be a good post before the Holidays.

I can't help this mom. We have a PS2 that we use as a DVD player. The games gather dust.

Any suggestions for figure skating video games? Any suggestions for plain ol' gifts? Let's start a great comment thread and share our ideas!

Do you have a question or an idea for a post? Send it to me at icemom.diane@gmail.com.

  1. Oh I'm so glad someone asked this! I was wondering the same thing. Also, which would be better for a 5and a 1/2 year old who is nuts about skating.

  2. My daughter (12 y/o) just got the Imagine Figure Skater game for the Feast of Saint Nicholas (December 6th). She loves it. It came out before the other game. I read reviews online and I think they have similar story lines. I picked this one because it was $10 cheaper - I didn't want to spend more in case it was a wash-out. I will have my daughter post a review later. BTW, I hope the Wii will soon come out with a figure skating game that uses the balance board.

  3. I forgot to add that one of my dd's skater friends (about 9 y/o) has this game. Her grandma told me her granddaughter has learned some things from it, though I don't know what they were.

  8. I am a figure skater myself and I have played the Imagine Figure Skater and would recommend it :).It doesn't just have skating in it but improving your stamina, going to school, health etc which is fun. From what I have researched, my guess is that Ice Champions is pretty much the same but is like a follow on game from the Imagine Figure Skater.Personally, I would get Imagine Figure Skater first as it is cheapest and supposedly the first game.If she likes it she could maybe get the other one another time if one of her friends reccomends it.Hope this helps x

  9. Thanks everyone for the great comments. I knew I could count on this network of skaters and moms of skaters to help out. Anyone have feed back on "Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games"?

  10. According to my daughter (she just turned 10), Imagine Ice Champions is MUCH better than Imagine Figure Skater. She says it's easier to do the jumps, there are more music selections and you can "buy" costumes, skates and accessories for your "skater". But she does like Imagine Figure Skater, just not as much as Ice Champions. If you have a Wii, there is figure skating in both Winter Sports and Decca Sports but she prefers Decca Sports. I've actually played that one and it's pretty hard but I guess you get the hang of it eventually!

  11. I'm not sure how the DS version of the winter olympics games is, but the wii version is boring. You just hit different buttons for spins and jumps. There was another figure skating game I played on DS (can't remember the name). It is sort of similar to Imagine Figure Skater.

  15. This was just what I was looking for. I actually found the Imagine Ice Champions cheaper at Best Buy, so I'm going to get that one for my 11 yo skater. Thank you everyone.

  16. My daughter too is a fan of skating. Well, I would suggest skating games for your child. I think the keyword there is to allow your child to let your child have the best things he / she should have.
